Adenium Dark Red

A stunning succulent tree with a swollen caudex and vibrant trumpet-shaped blooms — the jewel of desert gardens and collectors worldwide.

The Adenium, or Desert Rose, is one of the most spectacular flowering succulents available. Its distinctive swollen trunk (caudex) stores water, making it remarkably drought-tolerant, while its vivid blooms appear prolifically in full sun. Available in a wide range of colour varieties from our nursery — each plant is individually grown and selected for bloom quality.

Care

• Light: Full sun — at least 6 hours daily; the more sun, the more flowers
• Water: Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings — overwatering is the main cause of failure
• Soil: Gritty, fast-draining cactus or succulent mix
• Temperature: Warm tropical conditions; protect from cold and rain
• Difficulty: Moderate
• Pet friendly: No — all parts are toxic if ingested

Care tips

• Never let the caudex sit in wet soil — root and caudex rot is fatal.
• Feed monthly with a phosphorus-rich fertilizer during the growing season to fuel flowering.
• Reduce watering significantly in cooler months when the plant is semi-dormant.
• Repot every 2–3 years, exposing more of the caudex each time for dramatic effect.
• ⚠️ Keep away from children and pets — Adenium sap is toxic.
