Calathea Ornata (Pinstripe)

Striking pink pinstripes hand-painted across deep green leaves — the most elegant of the prayer plants.

Calathea Ornata, known as the Pinstripe Calathea, is famous for its glossy dark green leaves brushed with fine pink lines, as if each leaf were hand-painted. Like all Calatheas it raises its leaves at night in its signature "prayer" motion. It thrives in bright indirect light with high humidity, making it ideal for bathrooms, kitchens and shaded indoor corners. Available in pots with multiple plant counts — the fuller the pot, the more lush the display.

Care tips

• Use distilled water, rainwater or filtered water — Calatheas are sensitive to chlorine and fluoride, which cause brown leaf tips.
• Plant in an airy, well-draining mix — pair our potting soil with perlite or coco coir.
• Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season.
• Group with other humidity-loving plants or place on a pebble tray to raise local humidity.
