Monstera Adansonii

Delicate heart-shaped leaves laced with elegant oval perforations — a compact and charming Monstera for any bright corner.

Monstera adansonii, sometimes called the Five Holes Plant, produces smaller leaves than its larger cousins but with an equally striking pattern of natural perforations. It trails beautifully from shelves and hanging baskets or climbs readily on a moss pole. A fast-growing, easy-care aroid that is perfect for smaller spaces.

Care

• Light: Bright indirect light; tolerates medium light — avoid direct sun which scorches leaves
• Water: When top 5–7 cm of soil is dry; well-draining soil and a pot with drainage holes are essential
• Humidity: Moderate to high; mist regularly or use a humidifier
• Temperature: 18–27°C; avoid cold draughts and temperatures below 15°C
• Support: Moss pole or trellis recommended; also trails beautifully from hanging baskets
• Difficulty: Easy
• Pet friendly: No — toxic to cats and dogs if ingested

Care tips

• Water thoroughly, then allow the top 5–7 cm to dry before watering again — overwatering causes root rot.
• Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix — potting soil with perlite and orchid bark works well.
• More light produces more and larger fenestrations — move to a brighter spot if leaves are coming out with fewer holes.
• Pinch back vines to encourage bushier growth, or let them trail freely for a cascading effect.
• ⚠️ Keep away from cats and dogs — Monstera is toxic if ingested by pets.
