The Syngonium, or Arrowhead Plant, is loved for its distinctive arrow-shaped leaves, vigorous growth and adaptability. It can be grown as a compact bushy plant with regular pruning, or allowed to trail and climb on a moss pole. An excellent beginner plant that rewards consistent care with lush, rapid growth.

• Light: Bright indirect light; tolerates medium light — avoid direct sun which burns leaves
• Water: Every 7–10 days in spring/summer; allow top 2–3 cm to dry out between waterings; reduce in winter
• Humidity: High (40%+); mist regularly or use a pebble tray
• Temperature: 15°C–29°C; avoid cold draughts
• Difficulty: Easy
• Pet friendly: No — toxic to cats and dogs

Care tips

• Use a well-draining, airy mix — standard potting soil with added perlite or bark works well. Always ensure the pot has drainage holes.
• Prune leggy stems regularly to encourage a bushy, compact shape rather than a straggly one.
• Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer monthly during spring and summer.
• Too little light causes the stems to become leggy and the leaf colour to fade — move to a brighter spot if this happens.
